Choctaw County VINELink Coverage
Mississippi's official service is MS SAVIN/VINE. MDOC says anyone may register anonymously, not only a person enrolled in separate victim services. The system covers MDOC state offenders and offenders held by participating county jail facilities. Electronic booking and custody data from each contributing agency drive the public events and alerts.
MDOC coverage is expressly documented. Choctaw County Jail participation was not confirmed by an official county list during the research. If the jail does not appear after Mississippi is selected, call MS SAVIN or the jail rather than treating the missing result as proof of release. A person held only by the county may also never have an MDOC record.
VINELink is not the federal Bureau of Prisons locator, an ICE history archive, a court docket, or a permanent county release ledger. Each source answers a different custody question. For Choctaw County, the sheriff's public jail docket is the durable county record, while MDOC maintains state custody and supervision records.
Note: VINELink coverage follows contributing agencies, so the correct state, agency, and individual record matter more than a name alone.
Search a Choctaw County Inmate
Use VINELink for a specific person, not as a list of everyone recently released. Begin with enough identifying information to avoid merging people with the same name. The contributing agency is crucial because search results for other states and other Choctaw counties can look plausible.
- Open VINELink and select Mississippi.
- Choose the offender or custody search, not the service-provider directory.
- Enter the person's name and any offered identifier. Try careful name variants if needed.
- Match the reporting agency, record identifier, and public custody details before opening the result.
- Read the event literally. Released, transfer, unit change, and other custody do not mean the same thing.
- Write down the event, date and time, agency, and identifier, then call the contributor or MS SAVIN to confirm.
For a full county record search after release, use the Choctaw County released-inmate search. It explains how to obtain the sheriff's docket entry and trace a transfer to MDOC, another county, ICE, or federal custody.
The VINELink search screen supplies the state selection and specific-person lookup.
The captured screen shows the proper starting point, but a result is meaningful only after the reporting agency and person are matched.
Choctaw County VINE Release Fields
A VINE record reflects the data supplied by its contributor. Fields can vary with the agency and record type. Preserve the displayed wording. In particular, a released event means that contributor transmitted a release-status change. It does not prove that no other custodian accepted the person or that community supervision ended.
| Field or event | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Contributing agency | Which jail or corrections system supplied the custody event |
| Record identifier | The number used to distinguish the matched person and agency record |
| Custody status | The contributor's current public classification at the displayed update |
| Facility or location | The contributing location shown, not proof against all other custodians |
| Released | A release-status event sent by that agency, subject to confirmation |
| Transfer or other custody | A change of custodian, not community release |
A county VINE event cannot replace the permanent jail docket required by Mississippi Code § 19-25-63. Likewise, an MDOC VINE event does not replace the state offender history or discharge certificate. If two dates differ, ask whether one is an order date, a system update, a projected date, or the actual physical departure time.
A current-custody roster answers who appears confined in that interface now. VINELink adds contributed custody events and registration. The sheriff's docket records how and by what authority county custody ended. The court file supplies legal orders, while MDOC supplies state status. Keeping these sources separate prevents a no-result response from being turned into a release claim.
Set Choctaw County Release Alerts
Register only after matching the correct person and contributing agency. Available contact methods can include phone and email, depending on the live interface. Save the record identity and registration details so a later alert can be tied back to the right source.
- Open the matched record and select Get Notified or the current registration option.
- Choose the available phone or email method and language.
- Enter the requested destination accurately and follow each confirmation prompt.
- For telephone alerts, create or enter the four-digit PIN if the platform requests it. The PIN can acknowledge calls and manage settings.
- Complete any email or text confirmation and store the registration information securely.
- When an alert arrives, record the event details and call the contributing agency or MS SAVIN.
The four-digit PIN is a platform mechanic, not a separate Mississippi legal rule. Screens and contact choices may change, so follow the current prompt. Anonymous open SAVIN registration is also distinct from MDOC's separate qualifying victim-services enrollment.
Choctaw County Registration Link
MS SAVIN's Registration Link can carry a county registration into MDOC when a felony offender transfers to state or "other custody." This is a distinctive safeguard in Choctaw County, where no verified public recent-release feed was found. A transfer-aware alert can keep a county departure from being mistaken for return to the community.
County participation still must be confirmed. If a registration begins with the Choctaw County Jail and later moves to MDOC, use the later state record to describe current custody. The jail's disappearance shows the county no longer reports the person there; it does not establish where the person ultimately went.
The official MDOC SAVIN/VINE explanation describes covered events and Registration Link.
The official material shows why transfer and release alerts must be read with the contributing agency and custody destination.
Note: Registration Link helps preserve notification continuity, but it does not convert a transfer event into proof of community release.
Repeated Choctaw County VINE Alerts
Automated notifications can repeat because more than one data event occurs. MS SAVIN events can include transfer, a unit change, temporary movement, return to custody after absconding, escape or absconding, and release from custody. Multiple notices may track multiple system changes rather than multiple physical releases.
Phone numbers change, calls go unanswered, and email filters can block messages. Registration is not a guarantee of timely delivery. When a notice concerns urgent safety, do not rely on the automated message alone. Call the contributing agency or MS SAVIN and use appropriate emergency channels when necessary.
What a Choctaw Release Alert Proves
A released result proves that the named contributor sent a release-status event for the matched record. It does not prove the person entered the community, that no hold remained, that another custodian did not accept the person, or that probation or parole ended. Those conclusions require records from the sheriff, MDOC, court, or receiving agency.
Write down the displayed event without changing its verb. If it says transfer, unit change, or other custody, do not label it release. If it says released, ask the contributor whether that meant community release or an electronic handoff. Then request the durable discharge entry, including date and time, manner, authority, and receiving agency when one exists.
Data lag works in both directions. A newly processed event may not display at once, while an older status may remain visible after circumstances change. Search absence also has several causes, including spelling, coverage, an agency that does not contribute, and a county-only record that never entered MDOC. The correct response is to narrow the identity and call the source.
Confirm Choctaw County VINE Results
For a Choctaw County Jail event, call 662-285-6129 and ask whether custody ended, the exact release date and time, the manner and authority, and whether another custodian received the person. Request the corresponding public jail-docket entry. If the answer is transfer to MDOC, search the state system by name or ID and allow for intake lag.
For an MDOC event, compare the alert with the Inmate Search or Parolee Search. A parolee result supports active community supervision, not complete discharge or the exact prison-door time. For copies, request the releasable MDOC status history, actual release or discharge date and type, time sheet, and discharge certificate through the proper written records route.
Federal BOP custody is not covered by VINELink. Use the Bureau of Prisons locator for a federal prisoner and the federal court docket for release authority. ICE's locator has a limited recent-custody window. A county status described internally as "released to ICE" is a transfer, so the receiving federal record must be checked.
MS SAVIN can be reached at 601-359-5759 during standard business hours. Its 24-hour English and Spanish line is 1-888-967-7284, and TTY is 866-847-1298. Give the record identifier and contributing agency when asking staff to confirm an automated notice.
When confirmation differs from the alert, compare the date, source, and verb. A court order may predate the jail's physical execution. An MDOC intake can follow a county transfer. A later parolee entry can follow release from secure state confinement. Preserve each event in sequence rather than forcing all systems to show the same date.
Older county history should be requested from the Choctaw County jail docket, which is permanent, and from the related court file. For an old state discharge, ask MDOC for the releasable status history because its public search is an operational locator, not a promised complete archive. The durable record also helps correct a mistaken identity when a VINE name match was too broad.
Use the person’s date of birth and approximate booking period when the sheriff needs to separate common names. Ask for the booking identifier, actual release date and time, release manner, authority, and any receiving agency. These fields test the VINE event without demanding private data and show whether the person left custody or merely moved between systems.
