Choctaw County Projected Release Dates
MDOC may label its public field Tentative Release Date. The adjective is essential. It describes an administrative projection based on the sentence and MDOC's current calculation, not a promise that the person will leave on that day. A court's maximum term, parole eligibility date, earned-release supervision date, tentative date, physical release, and final discharge are distinct milestones.
Pretrial custody works differently. Someone held at the Choctaw County Jail while a case is pending has no computed MDOC release date. Bond, a recognizance order, dismissal, transfer, plea, or sentencing may change custody. The signed court order gives legal authority, while the sheriff's public jail docket supplies the actual manner, authority, and execution of release or discharge.
- Court sentence
- The judicial term and conditions.
- Parole eligibility
- The earliest point for possible Board consideration, subject to law and exclusions.
- Tentative release date
- MDOC's changeable administrative projection.
- Actual release
- The completed custodial event recorded by the releasing agency.
- Discharge
- The formal end of the relevant sentence or supervision.
Find a Choctaw County Projected Date
Start with custody scope. The MDOC search covers state prisoners and has a separate Parolee Search. It is not a substitute for the Choctaw County Jail docket. A person sent from the county jail to MDOC was transferred into state custody, not released to the community. A county-only detainee may never appear in MDOC.
- Ask the Choctaw County Jail at 662-285-6129 whether the person is pretrial, serving a county sentence, or transferred to another custodian.
- For state custody, open the MDOC Inmate Search and search by exact name or MDOC ID.
- Match the MDOC number and public identity fields. Open the detail record rather than relying on a results row.
- Record the location, status, sentence fields, and exact
Tentative Release Datelabel. Do not shorten it to "release date." - For a county sentence, request the judgment, jail-credit calculation, credited days, and sheriff's actual discharge entry.
- If the date is disputed, seek the official time sheet from MDOC Records or the county calculation from the sheriff and court.
The Choctaw County released-inmate lookup provides the wider chain for a named person, including the county docket and receiving-custodian check.
The MDOC search interface is the official starting point for a state prison projection.
The captured interface shows where to begin; each detail result must still be read for its exact status and tentative-date warning.
Choctaw County Earned-Time Rules
MDOC starts with the judgment and sentence terms. It then accounts for eligible pre-sentence jail credit, whether counts run at the same time or one after another, legal eligibility for earned time, credits actually earned and retained, and any other sentences or holds. The inmate handbook says eligible jail credit is deducted from the earliest sentence date to derive the sentence-begin date. MDOC requests qualifying jail time from the county of conviction, so a corrected Choctaw County credit record can alter a state projection after intake.
Mississippi Code § 47-5-138 addresses the earned-time and earned-release supervision framework. Related provisions cover trusty earned time, meritorious earned time, and exclusions. Eligibility turns on the offense, sentence date, classification, conduct, program or work status, and the full current law.
The familiar statement that a person serves 85 percent and may serve 15 percent on earned-release supervision applies only within the conditions described by MDOC for eligible cases. An ERS date does not force release. Conduct, classification, and an approved residence can still matter. Earned-release supervision also remains a supervised legal status, not complete discharge.
Note: No single percentage can safely replace MDOC's official time sheet and the statute version governing the sentence.
Why Choctaw Release Dates Change
A projected date is recalculated when its inputs or legal rules change. The date can move earlier after lawful credit or a corrected calculation. It can move later after lost credit, a new judgment, or another sentence. A date that passes without a reported release should trigger a records check, not a claim that the person was secretly released or held unlawfully.
| Factor | Possible effect | Record to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Choctaw County jail credit | A corrected eligible period can change the sentence-begin calculation | County confinement record and MDOC time sheet |
| Concurrent or consecutive counts | Changes how multiple terms overlap or stack | Signed judgment and sentence computation |
| Earned-time gain or loss | May move a tentative date within legal eligibility | MDOC calculation and disciplinary history |
| New sentence or detainer | May prevent departure or transfer custody | Court order and receiving-agency record |
| Parole action | Creates or denies an opportunity for conditional release | Parole Board action and MDOC status |
| ERS residence or classification | Can delay conditional community placement | Official MDOC case calculation |
Mississippi Minimum Release Floors
For crimes on or after July 1, 2014, Mississippi Code § 47-7-3.2 sets minimum-service floors before administrative credits may release certain people. The statute generally describes 25 percent or ten years, whichever is less, for nonviolent offenses; 50 percent or twenty years for violent offenses under § 97-3-2; and 60 percent or twenty-five years for specified armed robbery, drive-by shooting, and carjacking cases. The complete text and exceptions control.
Those figures must not be combined with the ERS 15-percent description to build a homemade date. Parole eligibility under § 47-7-3 uses related but distinct categories and exclusions. A caseworker provides the calculated parole-eligibility date and case plan under the admission process, while the Parole Board keeps its decision role.
Trusty earned time under § 47-5-138.1 and meritorious earned time under § 47-5-142 are also limited to people and activities that meet their requirements. Section 47-5-139 contains exclusions. A public search result will not show enough facts to decide every one of those questions. The official MDOC time sheet, sentencing papers, and current statute are the sound sources for an individual computation.
Choctaw County Jail Calculations
A county-jail sentence is not calculated from the MDOC tentative field. Ask the Choctaw County Jail for credited days, the time calculation, release manner, and actual discharge entry. Ask the relevant clerk for the signed sentence and any later modification. The two records answer different questions: the court states legal authority, while the sheriff records when county custody ended and how.
No authoritative Choctaw-specific weekend-release policy, local good-time rule, standard release hour, or family waiting location was found. Do not borrow a practice from another Mississippi county. Call the jail before travel and ask only what its current public process permits. A Sunday date printed in one record does not prove that staff use a standing Friday-release policy.
When the jail says "sent to MDOC," ask for the transfer date, receiving agency, and supporting docket entry. Then search MDOC and allow for intake lag. Once the state record appears, preserve its Entry Date, Location, Location Change Date, sentence data, and tentative field. County release from one custodian occurred administratively, but the person did not return to the community.
Choctaw Sentence Calculation Inputs
A sound date review starts with the signed judgment. List each count, sentence length, county of conviction, and sentence date. Next, identify whether the terms run concurrently or consecutively. Compare the eligible pre-sentence days supplied by Choctaw County with the jail-credit figure MDOC used. Only then should earned-time and release-mechanism rules enter the review.
MDOC's sample detail structure may show the name, MDOC ID, photograph, Entry Date, Location, Unit, Location Change Date, Number of Sentences, Total Length, offense description, sentence length, county, sentence date, and Tentative Release Date. Those fields help spot a mismatch, but the public page warns that state-law release types and dates may differ from displayed information. A screenshot is evidence of what the portal showed on that date, not a final time sheet.
Detainers and other sentences come last in the review because they can prevent physical departure even when one term reaches its calculated milestone. Ask which agency lodged the hold and whether it remains active. A county docket documents the local handoff, while the receiving agency documents the next custody. This agency-by-agency chain keeps a projected state date from being mistaken for a universal release date.
Passed Choctaw Projected Dates
If an MDOC tentative date has passed, first confirm whether the live record was updated. Possible issues include lost credit, an added or consecutive sentence, a detainer, residence-plan review, ERS classification, or a recalculation. Contact MDOC Records at 601-933-2889 or MDOCRecordsDepartment@mdoc.state.ms.us for time, jail-credit, and eligibility routing. The official directory lists P.O. Box 24388, Jackson, MS 39225.
For copies, MDOC requires a written public-record request rather than a phone request. Direct it to the Public Records Officer, Legal Division, MDOC, 301 North Lamar Street, Jackson, MS 39201, fax 601-359-5735, or legalpublicrecords@mdoc.state.ms.us. Request the time sheet, jail-credit inputs, tentative-date history if maintained, ERS and parole dates, final release or discharge date and type, and discharge certificate.
Note: Ordinary MDOC Records questions and formal public-record copy requests use separate channels and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Confirm Choctaw County Release
MDOC's Family and Friends Guide says the assigned case manager handles the exact release date. It also describes release processing that can take 30 to 45 days and issuance of a discharge certificate. A parole grant can therefore precede physical departure, especially when a residence plan or detainer remains unresolved.
MS SAVIN/VINE can add an alert layer for a pending custody change. Register on the correct record, write down the event and contributing agency, and then confirm by phone. The Choctaw County VINELink inmate search explains how to register and why a transfer alert does not prove community release.
The last step depends on the custodian. Obtain the sheriff's docket entry for a county release, the MDOC history and discharge certificate for a state release, or the receiving agency record for a transfer. Preserve the verbs used in each source. "Ordered," "transferred," "paroled," "released," and "discharged" are not synonyms.
For an MDOC release, published guidance says the department may buy a bus ticket to the destination or nearest city, but not an out-of-state ticket. That state practice must not be applied to Choctaw County Jail, where no authoritative transport policy was found. It illustrates why a state projection and county release plan must remain separate even when the same person moved through both systems.
